UpgradeOne Health Group say the surgical hub will open next spring
Work is progressing on a new multimillion-pound surgical hub in Scunthorpe. One Health Group is driving forward plans for its first UK hub after picking Lincolnshire as its preferred location for the centre, which will focus on carrying out NHS-funded procedures amid moves to slash waiting lists.
As we have previously reported, the centre will have 12-ensuite bedrooms for patients and around 20 staff. One Health Group says construction is progressing well, with the facility now expected to open in Spring 2027.
The new hub represents a significant investment in healthcare infrastructure in the area and will provide additional surgical capacity for local NHS patients, helping to expand access to treatment and support the NHS in meeting demand for planned procedures. It will provide procedures across Orthopaedics, Spine, General Surgery, Gynaecology and Urology for patients referred through Patient Choice.
Construction got under way in February this year, following the submission of plans by the Sheffield company, and the building is increasingly taking shape, with progress being made across both the external structure and internal works. Further sections of the roof have now been completed, marking an important milestone for the project as the building moves towards becoming weather-tight, while allowing more internal activity to take place.
Mechanical and electrical installation is also progressing, including works for key services such as wiring and pipework. Multiple trades are now operating across the site as the project moves into a more advanced phase of construction. Once operational, the facility will give patients greater access to treatment through the NHS Patient Choice pathway, while helping to make more efficient use of NHS resources.
The development is also intended to become a long-term healthcare asset for the local community, creating additional capacity in the region and supporting the delivery of planned surgery closer to where patients live. Adam Binns, Chief Executive Officer of One Health Group, says the hub will complement existing NHS provision and help create greater flexibility in how and where patients can receive treatment.
