Chief Executive Officer
Lucy was appointed Chief Executive Officer in September 2017 and brings with her a wealth of healthcare experience within the NHS and charity sector.
Previously CEO at Ashgate Hospicecare in Chesterfield, Lucy started her career as a nurse, training in Sheffield and working at Weston Park Hospital for some years before moving into a management career in the NHS.
Lucy was Head of Performance at the East Midlands Strategic Health Authority for a time, as well as Chief Executive for an End of Life Care charity in Derbyshire.
Lucy will be focussing on business growth into new markets through development of innovative pathways, building on One Health’s reputation for providing excellent performance and patient care.
Mr Derek Bickerstaff
Director of Strategy & Innovation
Derek gained degrees of Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery in 1982 and a Doctorate in Medicine in 1991. He was appointed to the training programme in Orthopaedic Surgery in Sheffield and after completing a Fellowship in Knee Surgery in Adelaide, Australia was appointed a Consultant Surgeon in Sheffield in 1993.
He developed a national and international reputation in knee surgery, treating many professional athletes and lecturing widely.
In 2000, he was asked to join the Sheffield Centre of Sports and Exercise Medicine at Sheffield University and in 2004 he started the One Health Group.
As Chief Executive of One Health Group for 13 years, Derek has overseen its growth into a multi-speciality medical services company over a growing geographic area. In 2017, Derek took on the role of Director of Strategy & Innovation and continues to work as a surgeon with a special interest in knee surgery.
Mr Andrew Howard
Andrew Graduated from Sheffield University in 1985. He undertook his basic and higher surgical training on the Sheffield University Teaching Hospitals training programmes.
He spent one year as a clinical fellow in Adelaide as part of his higher surgical training specialising in Spinal surgery. During his training he was Secretary and then President of the British Orthopaedic Trainees Association.
In 1997 he was appointed as a consultant spinal surgeon to the Sheffield University Hospitals NHS Trust and made honorary senior lecturer to the University of Sheffield. He also became Director of Post Graduate Medical Education.
In 2004 Andrew joined the One Health Group as an Executive Director. He has developed spinal services for the group and now holds the position of Medical Director.
Mr Richard Gray
Chief Operating Officer and Finance Director
Richard is an Accountant and Company Secretary by profession, with extensive corporate experience in small PLC’s and small and medium sized Enterprises.
Richard joined One Health Group in November 2007 and has successfully led the company to gain Any Qualified Provider, Care Quality Commission and Choose and Book accreditation in 2011.
Mr Ray Shannon
Qualified in Nursing and Social Work, Ray has over 20 years Board level experience in both public and private Healthcare organisations. He has been Chief Executive of a number of NHS organisations and during a 10 year period undertook a number of troubleshooting roles in “challenged organisations”. Ray has extensive experience in managing change and in particular changing organisational culture.
From 2006-2009 Ray was Chief Executive of a Private Healthcare company specialising in Rehabilitation Services based in London. In May 2012 he became Chairman of the One Health Group having been involved with the company on an advisory basis for the previous 3 years. In 2006 Ray was one of 16 people recognised by the National Portrait Gallery for his contribution to the field of Healthcare and his portrait featured in the “Picture of health exhibition”.
Ray is also a qualified Executive Coach and holds the ILM Level 7 Diploma in Leadership Mentoring and Executive Coaching
Mrs Jessica Sellars
Associate Operations Director
Jessica joined One Health Group in May 2005 and holds both a BA (Hons) in Business Studies and MSc in Leadership and Management from Sheffield Hallam University. Over the past 9 years Jessica has been a key member of the Senior Management Team and in particular has been responsible for the operations and development of OHG’s Patient Liaison Team.
In August 2014 Jessica was promoted to Associate Operations Director following the Boards decision to develop further strategies for growth to expand existing services and introduce new ones in the wider local region. In order to achieve these goals the Board recognised the need to increase their operational capacity at a senior level.
Jessica works closely with Senior Management Team implementing the growth strategies of the business. In addition Jessica’s role focuses on the establishment, development and optimisation of day to day operations in the company.
Jessica also closely supports the Speciality Team Leads of the Patient Liaison Department and oversees the day to day running of all organisational functions.
Mr David Whitney
Chair of Clinical Governance Committee
David was formerly Chief Executive of Central Sheffield University Hospitals NHS Trust from 1990 to 2001. He is a Non-Executive Director of Westfield Contributory Health Scheme and Chairman of the Weston Park Hospital Cancer Charity.
David is Non-Executive Director at Chesterfield Royal Hospital NHS Foundation Trust where he has been Chair of their Clinical Governance Committee for the past 7 years.
David is one of our Non-Executive Directors and drawing upon his substantial experience in the area of Clinical Quality has the specific role of chairing the OHG Clinical Governance Committee.
His role involves ensuring the standards of the Care Quality Commission are met, providing internal assurance to the One Health Board that the clinical processes within One Health are robust and fit for
purpose and that the clinical outcomes are appropriate and properly benchmarked/peer reviewed.
Mr Peter Goodfellow
Director of Clinical Services Development
Peter is a general surgeon qualifying with degrees in medicine and surgery in 1993 and gaining fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland in 1997. He was appointed as a consultant general, colorectal and laparoscopic surgeon in 2004. He developed laparoscopic colorectal surgery at Chesterfield Royal Hospital and retains close links with Chesterfield Royal Hospital retaining a clinical contract since retiring from a full time role there. He remains a busy general surgeon with clinical interests in groin surgery, laparoscopic and colorectal surgery.
He joined One Health Group in 2012 and has lead the Surgical Division as it has expanded to be a large scale service across multiple sites.
Peter was appointed as director of clinical business development in 2015 and works closely with the board and business development committees to help grow existing services and develop new services.
Mrs Sophie Hartley-Jones
Clinical Governance Co-ordinator
Sophie joined One Health Group in September 2012 initially as part of the Patient Liaison Team, which gave her a solid understanding of the patient pathway and the various procedures involved in supporting this process.
In October 2015, Sophie was promoted to Clinical Governance Coordinator providing support to our Clinical Governance Committee. As part of this role Sophie works closely with our Chair of Clinical Governance, Medical Director and Clinical Governance Lead in assuring the that clinical audit and effectiveness are an integral part of the overall strategy of OHG.
Sophie works hard to ensure the organisation meets its obligations to deliver high quality, safe medical services, whilst leading, innovating and supporting the development of improved clinical performance and compliance in service delivery, across the range of healthcare services provided by the organisation
