UpgradeTotal Ankle Replacement is used to treat end stage arthritis. This means the arthritis is very painful and affecting life unacceptably. It is needed when all other treatments fail, these include pain killers, splints/boots, physio, walking stick/activity modification and if the patient and surgeon agree it's the best option. An ankle fusion, setting the ankle solidly to stop movement and pain is an alternative.
