This is the pain in the forefoot. It can have various causes, but the commonest are long lesser toe metatarsals with formation of callosities on the ball of the toes. It can also happen due to Morton’s neuroma. This is the swelling and inflammation of the digital nerves that get entrpped and compressed between the metatarsals, which can cause shooting pain and burning in the toes. This is usuall seen in the 2nd and third web space. If conservative tretatment fails then the treatment for long metatarsals is Weil’s osteotomy as described above. The treatment for Morton’s neuroma is described above.
